Use This, Not That!
Kitchen Edition
Whether your kitchen is small and cozy or big and spacious with lots of storage space, there are a multitude of advantages to incorporating multi-use items into your kitchen. We’ve all seen the fun, shiny single-use kitchen items for sale that seem like a great deal until you get them home, use them the first time, and then realize you’ve got to put them somewhere. We don’t know about you, but our kitchen drawers already get cluttered up far too easily to also accommodate a hoard of shiny but ultimately silly single-use items. That’s why we put together this collection of nifty multi-purpose items that can help cut down on kitchen clutter and improve your prep and cooking game!
- If you love avocados, don’t waste your money on a specialty avocado dissection tool. Instead, invest in a high-quality chef’s knife. A good, sharp chef’s knife and a kitchen towel are all you need to open an avocado, discard the pit, and slice, dice or cube an avocado to order. Plus, there’s no limit to the ways you can use a chef’s knife. It’s really the workhorse of the domestic kitchen, from cutting meat to dicing vegetables and everything in between.
- Cast iron pans are fabulous for cooking and can tackle just about any task, which makes them a poster child for multi-purpose kitchen tools. When properly seasoned and cared for, they develop a glorious shiny non-stick surface that releases eggs, meat, and fish with ease. Since they have no plastic handles, they can also go from stovetop to oven in a flash. They may take a little more research to learn how to use than your typical non-stick pan, but they’ll last forever. A good cast iron pan is worth its weight in gold! And if you struggle with the idea of having to occasionally re-season cast iron, check out an enamel cast iron pan! Enamel cast iron pans don’t need seasoning and can also be washed with soap and water.
- Immersion blenders are a fabulous alternative to a typical blender. They take up less counter space, have fewer moving parts, and are easier to wash. They’re also great for blending soups in the pot or making whipped cream in a hurry.
- Glass mason jars make for great drinkware, storage for leftovers or dry goods, canning, and more. They’re easy to wash, eco-friendly, and can also serve as pretty décor if you have open shelves. Add nifty labels for extra appeal!
- Instant Pots are great multi-taskers! A combination between a pressure cooker and a crock pot, an Instant Pot can cook a pork roast to tender, mouthwatering perfection, sear meat, and even cook a cheesecake. Like the cast iron pan or the chef’s knife, the Instant Pot is a true multi-purpose workhorse.
